Hannu Mikkola and Arne Hertz drove IN-NP 31 in the 1985 RAC Rally but electronics failure eventually caused the Sport quattro to retire after leading twenty Stages. After winning the World Rally Championships of 1982 and 1984, Audi and the powerful quattro had not quite given up and 1986 would be the year when their last evolution of the Sport quattro E2 Group B car would have its final Hur-rah!
